Places to visit in and around Durgapur
Durgapur has some wonderful hangout places for entertaining people of all ages. Starting from children’s parks, multiplexes and shopping malls to exotic weekend trips, Durgapur has it all. The Anand Amusement Park in Durgapur is a very good recreational spot for youngsters. It has Toy Train rides for children and other rides such as Moon Walker, Water Coaster and Tornado Slide, Paddle Boating etc. The park’s special ‘Water Park’ also attracts many people. The park is also a good place to relax around greenery away from the city’s chaos.
The Kumar Mangalam Park is another such recreational center.
The city of Durgapur has a number of Multiplexes and Shopping Malls like the Junction Mall and Dreamplex in City Centre and the Reliance Mall in Benachity for the youth and teenagers to hangout with friends.
There are other places like the Nachan Dam, where you can go to spend the weekend or for a picnic during the winters.
The Ram Mandir near Muchipara, Bidhannagar is an ideal place for devotees. People go there to enjoy the place’s serenity.
Durgapur Barrage is another tourist attraction in Durgapur. It is a dam built across the Damodar River.
The Pandav Nath Mandir near Pandaveswar is yet another attractive spot for the tourists. The temple is believed to be built by the Pandavas during their exile. The Bhabani Pathak’s Tilla in Durgapur has a historical importance to it. It has very old caves used by various local chieftains like Devi Chaudhurani. The famous novelist Bankim Chandra Chattterjee also mentioned this tilla in his novel Devi Chaudhurani.
You can also go on a weekend trip to nearby places like Deul Park and Garh Jungle. Deul is a combination of a park and Shyamarupa Temple. It is an ideal picnic spot in winters.
Garh Jungle is an ideal spot for getting away from the city’s busy life, and if you are lucky you can spot some deer there.
